When you decide to create your company’s website, first thing clicks in mind – What will be the domain name? Ideal case is to get a domain name, same as your business or company name because it will be your identity in this virtual world of web. The name you choose will not only represent your business but will also helpful you in promotion.

Here are some guidelines that may help you to get a domain of your choice:

1. Top Keywords

Try to use a keyword or combination of keywords that best describe your business. It is also helpful for search engines to find your website on the web. Make a list of at least five keywords so that you can start to pair them or add prefixes & suffixes to create good domain ideas.

2. Keep The Name Short

If a domain name requires considerable attention to type correctly, due to spelling, length or the use of un-memorable words or sounds, you've lost a good portion of your branding and marketing value. Generally longer words lead to spelling mistakes, so shorter names can be easily and quickly typed without any mistakes.

3. Create Uniqueness

Do not confuse your customers by selecting a domain name that already owned by someone or any popular brand. Using numbers in domain name is not a good idea. People usually misunderstand the address if is it a numeric 1 or a word ONE (Like Get1Free.com). Hyphens are also missed out and people reach to address.

4. Spell Easy

Domain name should be easy to spell so that can be remembered or find easily. Avoid using shortcuts (like plz instead of please) or spelling variation (like fone instead of Phone).

5. Your Region

Identify your audience and add their region or city name in the domain (Like KarachiFootWears.com). So that local customers can remember it easily.

6. Lock in the minds

Choose a name that can customers remember easily. As you know there are millions of domains already registered so think about a name that appeal customers and sound great. You may discuss with your close friends to finalize a domain name.

7. Trademarks & Copyrights

When you select a domain, research about it and check if it is a trademark or copyright. It may be used by any another company. This is illegal and can create a big problem for you. It will spoil your reputation as well.

8. Domain Extension

Domain Extensions are suffixes at the end of web addresses (Like .com or .net). Choose an extension that best suits your business. Most common and widely used is .com domain. If you are not concerned with branding or name recognition, you do not need to worry about this one. However, if you are at all serious about building a successful website over the long-term, you should be worried about all of these elements.

9. Similar Names

This is good if you get all the related domain names that may have misspelled by the customers or any of your competitors can register and exploit your brand name.

10. Hurry Up!!!

Domain names are being registered every minute around the world. So when you choose a name and want to register, do it quickly.
